The 2014 Championship tournament was held 14.12.2014, at Maximum Skating in Smeaton Grange, Sydney. A full size inline hockey rink which was larger than all the venues that the AUHL hosted this year, but the rink is world class, a pleasure to play hockey on. The league’s top 4 teams battled it out for the National Championship. The Tournament results, which is the 2014 final placing’s are;
1st SWS Vikings
2nd SWS Wombats
3rd NBUC Stingrays
4th NBUC Riptides
An awesome tournament, great play by all the teams. A huge congratulations to the Vikings for taking out the inaugural AUHL title. Winning against the Wombats 4:3 in the final. This was a bit of an upset as the Wombats went into the tournament ranked 1st.
There was almost nothing between the top 3 teams, Stingrays only losing to both Wombats and Vikings by 1 goal. Riptides proved worthy opponents taking it to the other teams and leading against the Stingrays in there 3rd place game at half time.
The minor final was held in Canberra on 13.12.2014, teams ranked 5-8 battled it out with the two Canberra teams finishing with a one two finish. Canberra Roos’ took out the win, the Tournament results settled the team’s final placing’s for 2014, which are;
5th Canberra Roos
6th Canberra Bushrangers
7th Newtown Zombies
8th NBUC Pirates
It’s hard to believe that it was only the first year of the AUHL. 2014 saw 8 Tournaments, 9 different teams, so many new emerging players, with the team play of many teams better than anything seen previously in Australia. And it's only the beginning of the AUHL. 2015 will be bigger and better.
I can reveal that NBUC is looking to introduce a new team, SWS is planning two new teams, also interest from a possible Newcastle team, quite possibly a 12 team league for 2015.
I want to thank Ryan for the web page and all the updates, the committee, referees, mums, dads and players who made the AUHL ‘s first year awesome.
Cheers.
